Some people think Ashtanga yoga is a challenging, powerful practice but, in reality, it is highly adaptable, offering numerous modifications, suited to differing needs, making it accessible to all abilities. And I always teach in a versatile and inclusive way that caters to all levels. Everyone starts with the basics, builds a strong foundation, and advances from there.
Regardless of physical ability, Ashtanga yoga strongly emphasises breathing, bandhas, and drishti. This internal focus gives strength to the external postures and is accessible to everyone, allowing both beginners and more advanced students to have a meaningful experience.
I teach with an emphasis on these principles, and I believe they are more important than the actual postures, that there is no external value in any posture. So it doesn’t matter whether you bind in a posture, take full lotus, touch this or that…That’s not what Ashtanga is about.
The benefits of the practice come from attention, repetition, rhythm, breathing and balancing forces in the body. Training the mind from distraction, leading to a steady and still body and mind in preparation for meditation….
Ashtanga may appear to be all about physical power, but a deeper exploration reveals a practice that envelopes the spiritual, mental, and emotional dimensions of yoga.
And ultimately, it’s up to you to decide how far you want to take it👌😀
