The Ashtanga yoga Primary Series is called ‘Yoga Chikitsa’ (meaning ‘yoga therapy’) because of the grounding, cleansing and strengthening effect it has on both body and mind….Moving the spine in all directions and the resulting manipulation and cleansing of the lower abdomen and digestive system is the foundation of our PHYSICAL health


A unique quality of the Ashtanga Primary series is that the postures work on opening each side of the body in turn. This increases the symmetry of the the muscles that hold the spine, pelvis and scapula, which is the foundation of our STRUCTURAL health.

Most student notice that at first, one side might be tighter than the other, and these imbalances if left, can lead to sluggish circulation and blocked energy, so balancing the body in this way also contributes to optimum health 🫶


Ashtanga yoga primary series consists of several forward bends then counter posture backbends which activates two major nerves in the brain, calming the nervous system, improving our MENTAL health and resulting in the feeling of calm or ‘yoga stoned’ we know so well 😊
