FLOW

Ashtanga Yoga Plymouth

Ashtanga Yoga is the most traditional form of flow yoga.

Flow, rhythm and moment are very beneficial to our mental health, and the repetitive nature of the Ashtanga primary series allows us to become mindful.

Movement and flow, especially with others, have been used over the ages in all cultures to help us get out of our heads and into the present, freeing our sense of self, bringing serenity and peace of mind. Becoming a moving, breathing meditation.

In addition, and unique to Ashtanga, we focus our attention on the three focal points of breath, bandha (core) and dristi (gaze points) during our practice. This helps to actively draw the senses inward, further turning the sequence into a ‘moving meditation’

We simply learn to do these three things together: move, breathe, look.

The postures are ultimately shapes we make to connect with the breath and bandha - with the added benefit of highly being beneficial to our overall mental and physical health....calming the mind, reducing stress, opening the energy channels throughout the body, increasing flexibility of the spine, strengthening bones, and stimulating the digestive, circulatory and immune systems

Holding each posture for 5 breaths (the flow is the movement (vinyasa) between each posture) increases these health benefits, by allowing us the time to really find the comfort in the posture, slowing the breath, and developing more focus, balance and strength, while also promoting relaxation and reducing stress. Which is much more beneficial than a fleeting moment in a posture.

Why not come along to a class and discover the benefits for yourself....flowing through sun salutations, forward bends, twists, backward bends, inversions, relaxation....bringing balance, strength, flexibility, serenity, peace of mind 😊.... all abilities welcome as I give multi level options 😀🧘‍♀️🧘🏻‍♂️🙏
